Outline of Program and Steps
to follow
Main Aspects of Programme
- This programme
is a continuous combination of the following basic steps. (Please read further below
for more detailed information).
- Individually
doing hifz and completing your month’s syllabus at your own pace within one month
- Doing tasmee
with your Musaid as you feel it is necessary (does not necessarily have to be in
person)
- Doing
full tasmee of your month’s syllabus with your Musaid once a month in person
- Goal of progressing
through one level every month; i.e. completing hifz of the prescribed surahs and
performing continuous murajaat (revision)
Syllabus
- The 38 Surahs
of the Juz Amma have been divided into 11 monthly levels/groups (shown in the monthly
breakdown below).
- In each level/group:
- There are
on average 3 to 4 Surahs to do Hifz, and
- There is Murajaat
(revision) of all the Surahs whose Hifz has been completed in prior levels.
Murajaat is an equally, if not more important, aspect of Hifz of Al-Quran al-Majeed.
Murajaat helps maintain and strengthen the hifz previously performed.
- Each month’s
course consists of 13 units:
- Each unit
consists of a certain number of ayats for hifz (depending on the surah and the level,
this can range from 2 ayats to 7+)
- Each unit
consists of murajaat (revision) of certain surahs (4 to 6 on average).
- The syllabus
for each month showing the breakdown of the 13 units is available for download below.
- Your
goal is to progress through the programme by successfully completing one level (i.e.
13 units) one month at a time.
- If you want
to complete the 13 units faster than one month, then by all means you can do so
and progress faster to the next level. The one month timeline has only been
set so that mumineen have ample time to pace themselves as they wish to complete
the 13 units within a span of one month. Completing 13 units over a span of 30 days
is more than do-able.
- The level
you will begin at will be based on the location of the Surahs you already have done
hifz till without a break in the tarteeb (ordering).
- For example,
if you know all the Surahs continuously till Surah 13-Asr but then do not any surahs
until Surah 19-Qadr, you will start at the level which contains Surah 14-Takathur
(not 21-Teen).
- Note, because
it is common for many mumineen to not know Surah 20-Alaq (Iqra Bisme) and know some
of the Surahs ownwards approaching 26-Balad (La Uqsemo), Surah 20-Alaq has been
deferred towards the end of the La Uqsemo level, i.e. in Group 7.
Musaid
- Each participant
will be assigned a Musaid (mentor; guide). Your Musaid will be the person with whom
you will perform your tasmee, obtain guidance on doing hifz and murajaat, and the
person who will track your progress.
- At a minimum,
there should be tasmee performed in person once a month after the entire month’s
syllabus has been completed.
- You can do
tasmee more frequently if you wish as well (i.e. you do not need to finish all 13
units in order to do your Tasmee). Also this intermittent Tasmee need not be in
person (e.g. can be over the phone).
- You and your
Musaid will coordinate together the times that are mutually convenient for you to
perform your Tasmee. If your Musaid feels it is more efficient and convenient to
have a group tasmee session of all his/her mentees at one time, your Musaid will
inform you accordingly.
- Your Musaid
will be available to help and guide you at all times. Feel free to contact your
Musaid as you feel it is necessary.
Aids for Hifz and Murajaat
- In order to
improve one’s Ahkam and Makharij when reciting Quran, audio files have been specially
created such that each Surah’s ayats have been divided into individual audio tracks
(if the ayat is long, then the ayat may be split into 2 or 3 tracks). This allows
you to repeat the tracks as many times as you wish in order to do your hifz and
improve your Ahkam and Makharij.
- These audio
files are available for free download below in MP3 format (see links below).
- There is also
a set of 38 audio files which contain the continuous recitation of each Surah. This
can be used during Murajaat.
- If you require
these set of files prepared as an audio CD, please contact Mohammed bhai Sachee at
msachee@gmail.com. There will be a hub raqam collected
of $5 for the CD.
- It is recommended
that you use the same Quran when doing hifz. This is because the position of the
script will not be different if you keep switching between Quran, and this will
make it easier to do hifz.
- Further, it
is encouraged by Mahad-al-Zahra that you use at the Misri Quran when doing hifz.
The script is generally cleaner and the notations for the various ahkam are easier
to see.
Important Note:
The audio files have been prepared
as an aid for doing Hifz, not a substitute. Hifz does
not mean to memorize sound only; it means to memorize the words of
the Quran. Therefore, one must still sit down and read from the Quran when performing
Hifz of Al-Quran ul-Majeed.
